Stereotypes.

Stereotype: a widely held but fixed and oversimplified image or idea of a particular type of person or thing. "The stereotype of the man is being interested in football".

synonyms:standard/conventional image, received idea, cliché.

Theorist Andy Medhurst (1998) said that "stereotypes are a form of magnification... the media takes a negative element then magnifies it t o create an objection stereotype that allows the dominant group to feel more powerful."
Basically people choose to look down on others and use false stereotypes to make themselves feel better.
For example in the case of homosexuality, the stereotype is very feminine and "camp" which has been enforced by Soap Opras.
There are stereotypes in the media between gender such as:

There are also racial stereotypes such as:

Sexuality stereotypes are also an issue in society. It's a stereotype that homosexual men are "screaming queens" and very feminine whist the homosexual females are the opposite, being the "Butch Dyke". Sam Smith, a gay singer is quite feminine, this is an example that fits the stereotype. However sexuality is usually quite transparent and invisible and can't be seen on people. A lot of the stereotypes of sexuality are simply enforced by the media such as Soap Operas and Television, not from actual people in real life.
