Yet Another Homework Including The Lego Movie

The Lego Movie marketing campaign was so successful because of the number of audiences the advertising targeted. For example: the adverts recreated in Lego were originally adverts which adults would see and therefore targeted them, the Lego sets found in stores were meant to attract small children who played with Lego and the videogame was created in advertisement for slightly older children who played videogames. Since there was such a large range of an audience, the movie attracted a lot of people to watch it in the cinema. This would have generated free press on the movie as it was a world first, no one had ever done this before and since so much press would be on these adverts, more poeple would watch them and therefore more people would be inclined to watch the movie.

Synergy in marketing is when two media projects create a larger sum together than they ever would have done independently.

The Lego Movie used synergy in the form of the movie and the videogame to advertise both, as there would be movie-goers who don't play games who may play the game of the movie they watched and vice-versa for the gamers. The game and movie had the same plot, characters and theme, this means that the audiences are getting the same experiences even though they're on different platforms. This would attract the gamers to the movie and the movie-goers to the game.

A film company would want to release a videogame to tie-in with a film because the game would advertise the film and the film would advertise the game so people who experience one would be more likely to experience the other and therefore both medias would gain a larger total and so synergy exists.

Another Lego Movie Homework.

1 target audience of The Lego Movie is young children who play with Lego toys. The characters of the movie appeals to this audience as the characters are all made of Lego, there are also many iconic characters created in Lego such as Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman etc. these characters would excite the young children who know of them. The narrative of The Lego Movie is quite action-packed and fuels the children's imagination as Lego is designed to do.The settings are all made of Lego which the children would recognise and fuel their imagination further as if the whole setting is made of Lego meaning it can be recreated by the children practically. The themes of heroism and childish violence would excite the impressionable children who would want to put themselves into the story and be the hero.
Another target audience of the movie is the parents who used to play with Lego themselves. The characters would be mostly recognised by the parents who've been aware of franchises the Lego Movie includes in it's own: Star Wars, Harry Potter, Lord Of The Rings etc. and these characters may give the parents a sense of nostalgia for their younger days. The narrative is child-friendly and teaches the children important lessons about friendship and life which is what the parents of the children would want their children to see. The setting would be nostalgic of the different Lego sub-genres that the parents played with as children: Lego Knights, Lego Pirates etc. and so the parents would submit to the nostalgia and watch the movie. The themes of friendship and good and evil would be a good example for children to follow and so the parents would want the children to watch the movie to learn. furthermore this is a family movie and so parents who want to spend time with their family would go to watch it.
The third target audience of casual movie-goers would also be drawn to the movie for the amount of intertextuality in the movie. The characters all come from different franchises and so all of them in one movie would be highly exciting for a movie-goer. The narrative is the classic "a nobody saves everybody" story which would appeal to the movie-goers who enjoy hero movies. The settings are all Lego replicas of genuine settings which would also appeal to a fan of movies. There are a lot of themes in The Lego Movie which allows for a wide range of this target audience as fans of Romance Movies, Action Movies, Adventure Movies, etc. would enjoy this movie for their own separate themes.

Intertextuality is a major factor of the Lego Movie's success, The adverts of different characters from different franchises brought the fans of those franchises to the movie The poster campaign included a few posters with close-ups of the characters faces. These posters advertised the characters including Batman who is a Detective Comics icon and appeals to anyone who is a fan of DC. As well as this there was the main posters made completely out of Lego, there were explosions in the background and a lot of characters too, appealing to a wider audience with more affinity to said characters.
As well as the poster campaigns, there were TV adverts of businesses such as Premier Inn, Confused.com and British Heart Foundation which were recreated in Lego. These famous adverts were recreated in Lego for the purpose of Advertising the Lego Movie and were aired on TV during breaks from programmes.
There were also videogames created for the purpose of advertising the movie, for example free-to-play games on the Lego website but also the official Lego Movie Videogame released on consoles which followed the narrative of the movie but had playable features in it.
Other merchandise included Lego sets of The Lego Movie created by Lego so children could play with their favourite characters from the movie, this not only created another profit for The Lego Company but advertised the movie as people would see the figurines and toys in the store.
