magazine analysis

I've made a music magazine based on the classical genre, the primary target audience is Class A (the upper class of the population), usually people in their 30's or older whom earn approximately £75,000 a year or more.Their gender could be any gender.Their ethnicity could be any though usually Caucasian.Their interests would be formal suits and orchestra music. The words used for the masthead are simple, "type" being a symbol for something like a typewriter, which is quite old fashioned just like the genre of classical music.
This connotes the genre to the target audience as the target audience is quite formal and "old fashioned" as such, therefore they would respect the genre type.
The typography style is quite pixelated and simple and plain, it isn't all over the place or chaotic, it's orderly and that's what the classical genre target audience would respect and prefer.
The colour of the masthead is only black and red, these are simple colours and aren't too vibrant for the target audience, therefore they'd appreciate the text more as it's very simple and not too disorderly.
The colour palette is extremely simple, only using black, white, shades of grey, and red.
These colours connote simplicity, formality and order, not being too radical and quite plain. Red adds the little colour to the cover as without it, the magazine would be completely black and white, and too boring, not at all eye catching.
The colours used represent the target audience as the target audience would stereotypically be quite formal and orderly, rather than rampaging and chaotic, they also may be quite old fashioned and have a distaste for electrical instruments in this new age.
The layout is simple, like the rest of this post, it's not too cramped as that would distract the reader from the main image and story, it contains a few other headings but not too many, so the main image and heading is still the main focus.
This connotes the magazine's content as the content would be quite simplistic and orderly, not messy and not all over the place. The content is also showcased on the front cover with the subheadings.

  1. A solid first attempt at this sort of analysis, well done! Future targets:
    1) Include more media terminology.
    2) Make more reference to how media language choices (denotation and connotation) show the genre and represent/attract the target audience.
